MPD Make Arrest in Kiwanis Street Murder Investigation

willie mcleanThe Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in the May 4 shooting death of 22-year-old Demetrice Kelly of Montgomery.

MPD charged Willie McLean, 34, with capital murder and placed him in the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond. The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force took McLean into custody Aug. 24 in Montgomery.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 100 block of Kiwanis Street at about 12:30 p.m. May 4 after receiving a report of shots fired. There, they located Kelly who had sustained fatal wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting initially were unknown. As the investigation progressed, MPD identified McLean in connection with the homicide and sought a warrant for his arrest.
