Troy Councilwoman Dejerilyn Henderson Passes Away

TROY HENDERSON VOCouncilwoman Dejerilyn Henderson passed away Wednesday afternoon at her home in Troy. She served Troy’s District 5 seat for 4 years.
Shortly after 4:00pm on September 7, the Troy Police Department received a 911 call from the 200 block of Montgomery Street. The caller stated that she could not get her mother to wake up.
Haynes Ambulance and the Troy Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the residence along with officers from the Troy Police Department. Emergency personnel entered the residence to find the homeowner Councilwoman Henderson deceased.

There were no signs of forced entry into the residence and no signs of foul play.

Henderson’s death appears to be from natural causes however the Troy Police Department is working with the Pike County District Attorney’s Office and the Pike County Coroner’s Office to have an autopsy completed to confirm the cause of death.

The Troy Police Department expresses their deepest sympathy with Councilwoman Henderson’s family during this most difficult time.

Mayor Jason Reeves issued the following statement on Henderson:
“We are saddened to learn the death of Councilwoman Dejerilyn Henderson. She was very passionate and hard working. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time. I have ordered that all City of Troy flags be lowered to half staff in her honor.”
