BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – Alabama State’s Inma Martinez and Gianna Guyot have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) as the Offensive and Goalkeeper Soccer Players of the Week for their outstanding performance during the weekend of competition from October 14-16.
Martinez, a junior transfer from Missouri Valley College, tallied one goal and three assists for a career-best five points in ASU’s 6-2 victory at Southern this past Friday.
Martinez currently ranks fourth in the SWAC in points with 18 (six goals, six assists).
It was her first weekly SWAC honor.
Guyot, a sophomore, made a combined 12 saves and played 200 minutes in the 6-2 victory at Southern and then came up with a seven-save shutout at Jackson State this past Sunday in a scoreless tie.
For Guyot, it marks her fourth SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season.
The Costa Mesa, Calif. native dropped her goals against average (GAA) to 1.86 on the season and currently ranks second in save percentage (.841) and third in saves (37) for conference only matches.
“Gianna was certainly the player of the match on Sunday and Inma was a presence on the field in Friday’s win,” said ASU head soccer coach Jodie Smith.
“It’s always nice to be recognized by the conference for our efforts.”
