T-Birds’ Cunningham grabs Capital Hyundai Impact Player of the Week mantle

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AlabamaNews.Net) — Fresh off his 6 touchdown performance Friday night versus Clay-Chalkville’s Cougars, Park Crossing quarterback Malik Cunningham is Capital Hyundai’s latest Impact Player of the Week.

The senior signal-caller, who has previously committed to the University of Louisville, accounted for 399 of offense in the T-Birds’ 56-17 win over Clay-Chalkville, went 13 of 18 for 243 yards through the air with 4 touchdown tosses, and then ran for 156 yards on 16 carries.

At 9-1 and on a bye week with a first round playoff berth at home a week from Friday, Cunningham is more concerned with his team’s overall performance than personal accolades.

” I’m very nervous about the playoffs, considering what happened last year,” said Cunningham Monday afternoon.

” That’s why I’m trying to be the best leader that I can and trying to do all the little things right and do everything little thing that coach tells me to do. I’ve been trying so far and I’m looking forward to the playoffs.”

“Oh, he’s our guy. everything we do offensively runs through him,” says Smitty Grider, Park Crossing’s Head Football Coach.

” And, he accounted for about 400 yards of our offense Friday night, and for the season, he’s at 75 or 85 percent of our offense. He’s at 2,600 yards out of 4,000,” said Grider.

The Thunderbirds will face either Saraland or B.C. Rain a week from this Friday night at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
