Senator Jeff Sessions Goes on National Tour in Support of Trump

annsessionsjeffussenator.jpgU.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions in recent days rolled through Iowa, Nevada and the panhandle of Florida to stump for Republican Donald Trump.

The first U.S. senator to endorse the outsider candidate-turned-Republican nominee has emerged as a frequent surrogate for the GOP presidential nominee.

Sessions’ role in the inner orbit of the Republican nominee has led to speculation of an eventual presidential appointment if Trump should prove victorious on Tuesday. The 69-year-old senator has downplayed the prospect when asked about it during campaign stops.

Political scientist Natalie Davis said Sessions brought conservative credentials to the Trump campaign when he signed on as an early supporter. She said association with Trump has also raised the national profile of the junior senator from Alabama.
