Tigerettes travel to Montevallo Tuesday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  The Tuskegee University women’s basketball team will look to build off of their opening weekend successes in the Regional Challenge when they hit the road Tuesday night to face the University of Montevallo at Trustmark Arena, with tip scheduled for 5:30 pm.

Tuskegee (1-1) dropped their opener to North Alabama on Friday, before responding with a six-point victory over Alabama-Huntsville to close the weekend and even their record heading on the road for their next two contests this week.

Senior Rachel Brownlee, the SIAC Preseason Player of the Year, leads the way for Tuskegee as she is averaging 21.5 points per game through two games this season – including a career-high 28 points against UAH to close the weekend. The senior has scored in double figures in four games (two of those exhibitions), and has the 20-point mark in three of those games. She has continued her streak of consecutive games in double figures to 28 after the win on Sunday.

Freshman Taylor Miller has been in double figures in each of the four games for Tuskegee this season, including both regular season games. The freshman averaged 15 points per game over the weekend, to go along with three assists and three steals. Fellow freshman Jalynn Estrada is in the starting lineup for the Tigerettes, and after 15 assists in the two exhibition games, the freshman is avergaing 3.5 assists per game during the regular season.

The post play for the Golden Tigers has been brilliant through the first four games, and especially the two regular season games. Junior Cheyanne Williams is averaging five rebounds and three blocks per game in the regular season, while sophomore Jade Wilson – after averaging 10 points per game in exhibition games – is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game in two regular season games thus far. Freshman Ashiala Jackson came off the bench this weekend to average eight points and six rebounds per game – including 12 points and eight rebounds against North Alabama – while Teja Finley is averaging 6.5 points and three rebounds per game off the bench.

The game Tuesday night will be carried by the Tuskegee Digital Network, beginning with pregame at 5:15 pm.
