City Cracks Down on Businesses not Paying Sales Tax

Two prominent Montgomery businesses were brought up at city council Tuesday after failing to pay their sales tax.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says this should serve as a warning for other businesses.

“If you’re collecting tax on behalf of the city and the county and the state and you’re not remitting it then your stealing from those governmental entities,” he explained, “and frankly for me I think they’re ought to be a more severe penalty than just getting your business closed.”
