Officials Reviewing Indecent Exposure Incident Response

Montgomery Police are investigating an indecent exposure incident that happened at a popular shopping area in East Montgomery.

The victim who requested to not be identified says she was walking to her car outside of Target at Eastchase when a man in the car beside her stopped her.

“The individual rolled down his window and he said ‘mam, can I ask you a question'” she explained.

When she looked over she saw that he was exposing himself. She immediately called 9-1-1 but says the dispatch operator wasn’t very helpful and that police were never dispatched to the the scene of the crime.  She ended up calling police again when she got home and a report was filed.

Chris Murphy, Director of Public Safety, addressed those concerns Thursday.

“While we technically handled this situation properly, we lacked a sense of compassion and a sense of urgency,” he shared.

He says that corrective measures will be taken where necessary and they hope to make an arrest soon.

Target also released the following statement about the incident:

“At Target, our guests are at the center of everything we do and their safety is our top priority. Our commitment to creating a safe and secure shopping environment in our stores is unwavering. As part of this commitment to safety, we have robust procedures, policies and trainings in place to ensure that our stores are safe places to shop and work.

We are partnering with closely with law enforcement on this matter. As this this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share additional details. Please contact law enforcement with any further questions.”
