Future of Alabama Mental Health
The future of mental health in Alabama is sure to be among many issues discussed in next week’s legislative session.
Jim Perdue, the Commissioner of Mental Health in Alabama spoke to leaders in Troy Wednesday on his mission for the Department of Mental Health.
The department serves about 150,000 people a year. But with limited funding, perdue says it’s difficult for the department to do its mission. Bryce Hospital is the only mental health institue in the state, located in Tuscaloosa. It’s one of many things, Perdue would like to see change in mental health care.
“It’s an ongoing process. I feel very confident that we’ll be funded to do the things we need to do over the next several years,” says Perdue.
The Alabama Legislative Session starts Wednesday, February 7th.
