Food Truck Parking Spots Created in Downtown Montgomery

After years of community interest, Montgomery officially has five parking spots specifically for food trucks in downtown.  This comes after the city council voted to create the spots last month.

Two of the signs are on North Ripley Street, not far from the Statehouse, and three others are in a parking lot near Cramton Bowl.  Steve Jones with the City of Montgomery says they picked these spots for a specific reason.

“They are in the proximity of where we have over 25,000 employees everyday, with the state of Alabama,” he explained, “add our Maxwell and Gunter residents that come up here we’re upwards of 30 sometimes in the downtown area at any given time.”

Since the announcement many businesses have shown interest in starting food trucks.

“When I moved here I see that there’s not a lot of food trucks so we opened a restaurant and now I want to take the food out in a food truck,” explained Syed Nawaz, co-owner of NYC Gyro.

The restaurant has already purchased a food truck and hopes to have it up and running in the next month.

To use the spots, you must have a food truck vendors license from the city and you must be actively serving food while you are parked.
