ASU Board of Trustees Elects New Board Chairman
The Alabama State University Board of Trustees (BOT) elected Trustee Alfreda Green of Huntsville, Ala. as its new chairwoman. Green succeeds Trustee Ralph Ruggs. Trustee Angela McKenzie is the BOT’s vice chairwoman. Green joined the Board in May, 2010 and is a 1980 graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.
She is a much decorated and senior staff member at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, where she has over 26 years of specialized experience in managing and operating complex business systems. She serves as its director of Logistics, providing support for the U. S. Army’s Joint Attack Munitions System Program Office. She is accountable for logistics support planning and execution of Army Air-to-Ground munitions. In this capacity, Green manages an organization consisting of three U.S. Army divisions.
Green is no stranger to managing and overseeing complex budgets and at Redstone where she is responsible for executing an annual budget averaging $75 million, directing personnel actions that include hiring, equal opportunity actions, contract management and managing complex and top-secret Army inventory items at the Arsenal.
A much decorated Army civilian employee, Green has received three Department of the Army Achievement Metals for Civilian Service, received the prestigious Ernie Young Award, was a senior leader recognized with the Army Materiel Command’s Outstanding Team of the Year Award, has been presented with numerous Commanders’-Coins, as well as other accolades and awards.
She is very active in her community, supporting non-profit organizations that provide support to local charities, especially children and senior citizens. She is a member of Blacks in Government, The Association of the United States Army, Federally Employed Women and the Alabama State University Rocket City Alumni Chapter in Huntsville.
In 1997, Green earned a master’s degree in business management from Florida International Institute of Technology. She also is a logistics management intern graduate of the School of Engineering and Logistics, at the Red River Army Depot.
She and her husband, Horace E. Green, are the proud parents of four adult children, and six grandchildren.
