Grassroots Movement Rallies Outside Of State House

Members of Moral Movement Alabama, formally known as Moral Monday, gathered outside of the Alabama State House Tuesday afternoon to voice their opinions on several bills up for vote this legislative session.

As legislatures met for theĀ first session of the year, Moral Movement wanted their voices to be heard loud and clear. They brought with them, a letter to take to the house speaker.

Benard Simelton Co-chair of Moral Movement, says that letter outlines their support for bills such as the raising of Alabama’s minimum wage. They are not in favor however, for a bill that could abolish, the Judiciary committee.

Reverend Rayford Mac, member of Moral Movement, says that their gathering is not to be confused with a protest. he says they are advocating for issues such asĀ medicaid expansion, a decent minimum wage, criminal justice reform, and a clean environment.

Simelton Says that Moral Movement will continue to rally throughout this year’s legislative session and encourages others to make their voices heard. He says that whether you support the movement’s position on some of the proposed bills or Ā just want to ask your representative or senator about another issue, it’s your civic duty as a citizen of Alabama.
