State Auditor Against Governor’s Prison Plan

State Auditor Jim Zeigler rallied supporters Tuesday to oppose Governor Robert Bentley’s prison plan.  Ziegler says the plan will hurt taxpayers.

“The Bentley plan will in-debt the taxpayers for over a billion dollars after the interest charges are added in over a 30 year period of time,” he explained.

He says the plan does not solve overcrowding problems in the prisons and that there are other alternatives.

“It is not the only alternative,” he shared, “I have identified a board of ten different reforms that could be made for around 123 million and pay for that out of existing revenues.”

Zeigler is urging voters to call their legislators and ask them to oppose Governor Bentley’s plan.
