Civil Rights Groups Changing Tactics Following Sessions Loss

After failing to prevent Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ confirmation, civil rights groups are now shifting their attention to monitoring his actions at the Justice Department.

Sessions was sworn in at the White House Thursday despite furious opposition from civil rights groups.

National Urban League President Marc Morial says they will hold Sessions accountable if he’s not “a fair and impartial defender of liberty and justice.”

Other groups are swinging their efforts toward the Supreme Court confirmation fight, President Donald Trump’s executive orders and making sure the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division does not get defunded.

Sessions was confirmed as attorney general on Wednesday on a nearly party line vote by the GOP-controlled Senate.
