Montgomery Man Charged with Homicide in December Shooting

The Montgomery Police Department has charged a suspect in the homicide of 30-year- old Matthew Jones, who died from injuries he received in a Dec. 8, 2016, shooting. Jones was pronounced dead Jan. 1, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center South, where he had been receiving treatment since the shooting.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at about 1:15 p.m. MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 1600 block of East Trinity Dr. after receiving a report of a subject shot. There, they located the victim, who had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment. The investigation identified William Allen, 30 of Montgomery as the suspect.

On Friday, Feb. 3, MPD charged Allen with one count of murder in connection with Jones death. Allen was extradited from Cobb County Georgia on Feb. 10 where he was being held for an unrelated charge and was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $150,000 bond.

Allen previously had been charged with one count of first-degree assault following the Dec. 8 shooting.

At this point in the investigation, no additional information is available for release.
