New Impeachment Resolution for Gov. Robert Bentley

A new impeachment resolution could be passed around the Alabama House today, accusing Governor Robert Bentley of mismanaging campaign funds and more.

According to several reports, Rep. Corey Harbison (R- Cullman) says the resolution may not be brought to a vote today. It may depend on the amount of support.

Harbison did not sign the original impeachment resolution, but says lawmakers need to address the “cloud” hanging over the state. The House Judiciary Committee had been addressing possible impeachment articles last year, but suspended their actions after then-Attorney General Luther Strange asked them to, because of an investigation he was conducting.

Last week, Bentley named Strange as the replacement of Jeff Sessions in the U.S. Senate. Former Marshall County District Attorney Steven Marshall took over the Attorney General’s office this week.

The Alabama House convenes at 1 p.m. Alabama News Network will be at the State House following developments.
