Boy Scouts Compete For “Best In Frontier District” Title

A Boy Scout Camporee is underway this weekend at Cooter’s Pond in Prattville.

Ten Boy Scout troops are competing in the Camporee to claim a title of “Best in the Frontier District.” That includes Autauga, Chilton and Elmore counties.

The Camporee troops will compete in different events to show their skills such as knot tying, first aid, using maps and compass, build fires and more.

Boy Scout volunteer John Cooper said they try to incorporate different science, technology, engineering and mathematics into the scouting programs.

“Well you know our goal with scouting is to build young men and women of character, to teacher them different life skills hopefully throughout some of their scouting exploration or their scouting careers they’ll learn some skill they’ll help them maybe identify jobs,” said Cooper.
