Town of Mosses wants own Police Dept
The town of Mosses in Lowndes County came together Thursday night to find some answers.
A double homicide just a few weeks ago has put the community on edge.
They held a town hall meeting to try to share ideas on what to do about the recent uptick in crime.
One of the items on the agenda was forming a police department.
Right now, residents are contributing one dollar a month each to the fire department, but residents say it could go to better use.
” I had been chief of police one time here a long time ago, but we didn’t have money. So that is the problem we have now; the money is just not here. We are trying to get together and see what’s best. And I decided and talked with some people if we could get rid of the fire department because it’s not really enforced anyway,” said meeting organizer Harold Bell, Sr.
At the meeting, they also discussed an election for a new mayor since their former mayor, Walter Hill, resigned last month after pleading guilty to using his office for personal gain.
He will also have to repay the city some 25 thousand dollars.
