Suspects Identified in Fatal Stabbing of Elmore Co. Prison Inmate

The Alabama Department of Corrections has identified two suspects in the stabbing death of a state inmate that happened at the Elmore Correctional Facility on Sunday.
Prison officials said state inmates David Menuel Carter, 37, and Corey Mirell Hughes, 21, were detained for fatally stabbing 36-year-old Demarko Quinta Carlisle during an altercation in one of the facility dorms. Prison officials said Carlisle died of multiple stab wounds from the attack.
Carter is serving a 30-year sentence on a 2011 murder conviction and Hughes was sentenced to 25-years for a murder conviction in 2013. Both inmates were convicted and sentenced in Montgomery County.

Carlisle was serving a life sentence on a 1999 murder and first-degree robbery conviction out of Jefferson County. Carter and Hughes will be charged in Carlisle’s death. A motive for the stabbing is not known at this time.
This is the second fatal stabbing reported at the Elmore Correctional Facility since Feb. 16.
Grant Mickens, 35, died Feb. 16, when he was fatally stabbed by Demetric Horsley, 31, who was charged with capital murder in Mickens’ death.
State inmate David Sanders was the victim of an attack at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore on Feb. 16. Sanders died from his injuries at a Montgomery hospital on Feb. 18. Four inmates were detained as suspects in Sander’s death.

The recent incidents at the Elmore and Staton Correctional Facilities are unrelated, according to prison officials.
The Elmore Correctional Facility remained locked down Monday while ADOC continued its investigation into stabbing.
