Enable Savings Plan Alabama Created for Those with Disabilities
Monday was an exciting day for Stephanie Miner. She lives with the neurological disorder cerebral palsy. With the creation of the Enable Savings Plan Alabama, Miner now has more saving options that assist with that disability.
“It’ll help me try and save money for personal care attendants, healthcare expenses,” she explained.
Miner has a service dog named Astro to help her with daily tasks. Soon, though, Astro will be retiring and she needs to find another service dog which could cost up to $16,000. She hopes this new savings plan will help with that cost.
Account holders can save up to $100,000 which used to be capped at $2,000.
It also has no affect on eligibility for other resource-based benefits. State Treasurer Young Boozer says this will open many doors for those living with disabilities.
“How excited they are about having this product and how passionate they have been with our development, it is going to make a giant impact,” he shared.
