10 Years Later: Remembering Victims of the Deadly Enterprise Tornado
It’s been 10 years since a deadly tornado ripped through Enterprise, killing 8 students at Enterprise High School and 1 resident off campus.
“We have new buildings, we have new teachers, we have a lot of new things but one thing that hasn’t changed has been the love and respect that we have for each other,” says Matt Rodgers, Principal at Enterprise High School.
For many, March 1st 2007 is still fresh on their minds.
“I remember the lights and I remember screaming and I remember not really wondering what was going on,” says Brooke Morris.
“It was just horrible.Waiting the rest of the evening, waiting and we would hear a little bit of news you know about the students that had passed. It was just a horrible evening,” says Lynn Newsom.
Brooke Morris was a student at the time. Now she stands in support of her friend Ryan that was one of the eight students killed.
“I made a promise 10 years ago that I would take care of his mama and his daddy and thats what I’m going to do,” says Morris.
It’s something his parents are thankful for.
“My heart could be so broken – you know losing Ryan and missing him everyday but yet it’s filled with joy to see all the people here,” Leanne Mohler.
It’s also a joy for other parents visiting the memorial, having the continuous support from families that are enduring the same loss.
“I think about 10 years ago that the lord was looking for 8 angels and he found them right here at Enterprise High School and that’s what he did,” Â says Peter James Dunn.
And having that peace, makes them stronger.
“In tragedies, people do one or two things, they either fall apart or come together and I’m so proud of our community.
