Andalusia Man Arrested for Identity Theft

An Andalusia man is in jail after being arrested for identity theft.

44-year-old Michael D. Giles was arrested and charged with four counts of identity theft, ten counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and one count of 1st degree theft of property.

He is being held in the Covington County Jail under a $200,000 dollar bond.

Investigator Cody Warren says Giles opened the victim’s mail and using a credit card offer, opened a credit card account using the victim’s identity.

He purchased over $2500 of items with the card.

Investigator Warren says the investigation continues. Investigator Warren would like to remind citizens to take steps to safeguard your mail and identity, including email.

You are encouraged to shred all mail with any personal information on it so it can’t be used against you by thieves.
