State Board of Education Discusses MPS Takeover

The State Board of Education met Wednesday for a work session to discuss plans for the takeover of Montgomery Public Schools.
The board met in a work session to clarify some issues that have recently come to the forefront.
Those issues included the Alabama Reading Initiative.
Superintendent Michael Sentance says there is a lack of quality reading teachers in the schools.
He would like to see schools partner with universities for professional development at little or not cost to the teachers.
As for any changes to the MPS administration, we’re told it is too soon to tell.
“Specific changes to MPS administration has not been addressed. Those issues will be tackled as we get further into the implementation of the intervention,” said Spokesman Michael Sibley.
We’re told a lot of details will be spelled out at the formal state board meeting Thursday and in the work session that follows.
