Driver Finds Success with Uber One Year Later in Montgomery

Johnny Green is on the road these days….
Formerly known as “Windee Breeze” on “Good Afternoon Montgomery,” he now has a new alias.

“Hi, everybody! I’m Johnny Green, better known now as the “Papa Uber…. the Ubernator,'” said Green.

He says Uber has been a great way to earn a living on his own terms.

“I’ll give you an example, two weeks ago I clocked in at the airport at 6:15 am and I didn’t get through until Sunday at 3:15 am. So what is that? 21 hours, I guess. But it was a good day. What I like about it is the money is deposited directly into your account,” said Green.

He took us on a ride around the city.

“One of the reasons I got into then business is because of my grandchildren. I call this g
randchild money.”

His Escalade is decked out with two phones, a dash cam video and Uber signage. Green says he has done his research and makes sure he knows the best times and locations for potential Uber riders.

“I get up about 5/5:30, get ready and go out and usually come downtown early because there will be people that want to get to the airport and catch that 7:30 flight,” said Green.

Green says you can make a living at it if you’re willing to work for it.
And city officials say they see it as a win for the city as well.

“Montgomery wants to be viewed as a progressive, happening, vibrant city,” said Michael Briddell, City Communications Director. There’s a younger generation of millennials who use Uber as a transportation necessity, and for that reason, we are glad that Uber is here. And the fact that at Tuesday’s council meeting… Lyft, a competitor decided that it, too, wanted to come into the Montgomery market, makes me feel a little bit glad that Montgomery is being viewed as a place where those types of services can thrive and prosper,” said Briddell.

And for the Papa Uber…this new gig just makes sense.

“It’s a good opportunity. It almost makes you question whether it’s against the law its so easy,” said Green.
