Mask Required in Alabama Schools & Colleges, Governor Ivey Extends Safer At Home Order Until August 31
When students return to school this fall, face mask or coverings will be required.
The mandate comes as coronavirus cases continue to rise, and officials grabble with how to return student and teachers to class safely.
Governor Kay Ivey has extended the Safer At Home Order until August 31st. The mandatory mask mandate will remain in effect until August 31st as well.
In the past two weeks there have been more than 22,000 new coronavirus cases in Alabama, that is more than 1/4 of the states total number of cases.
When asked about the decision to require mask in schools, State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris said “physicians and public health officials and medical researchers all have a consensus that this is the best tool that we have right now.”
The rest of the Safer at Home order remains unchanged.
Students from the second grade through college will be required to wear a face covering when practical.
