Lowndes County Courthouse Named After “Big John” Williams

By unanimous decision, Lowndes County officials have renamed the Lowndes County Courthouse after late sheriff “Big John” Williams. The Lowndes County Commission along with the sheriff’s office held an unveiling ceremony Monday morning.

Williams was fatally shot at the QV gas station directly across the street from the courthouse. He was shot and killed by 18-year-old William Chase Johnson.

Johnson is being held in Elmore County Jail on a Capital Murder charge.
