The annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee kicks off — and Black History Month wraps up — with a day of activities and announcements.

Wal Jubilee0229 Pkg2Vice President Kamala Harris announced plans to attend the annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee — earlier this week. Now we’ve learned that the U.S. Attorney General — will be coming as well.

“We’re just so proud that the Vice President will be here. We’re so proud that the Attorney General will be here,” said BCJ Co-Founder Hank Sanders.

Attorney General Merrick Garland is the latest high ranking government official — whose attendance at the 59th annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee — has been confirmed. Vice President Kamala Harris will also attend.

Wal Jubilee0229 Pkg“The highest law enforcement person in the entire country, and one of the highest in the entire world, and a person who has so much to do with voting rights laws and making sure that we still have voting rights,” said Sanders.

The Bridge Crossing Jubilee — is widely considered to be the largest annual civil rights event in the country. It commemorates Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965.

“These people are coming to Selma including the Vice President and the Attorney General because of the history made by people who will never be in the history book,” said BCJ Co-Founder Faya Toure.

It’s part of the legacy — and contribution — that black people have made to the country. Something which is celebrated each year during Black History Month.

The ceremonial kickoff of the Jubilee — is an old-fashioned mass-meeting at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
