CAMPAIGN 2024: U.S. Rep. Barry Moore has won the Republican nomination in Alabama’s 1st Congressional District after upsetting incumbent Jerry Carl.

Alabama’s shifting district lines have led to an unusual and bitter Republican primary battle that pitted two sitting Republican congressman against each other.

Moore is the Congressman from District 2, but was drawn out of the district when the lines were changed last year. He is from Enterprise, which is in District 1.

So he decided to challenge Carl for the seat. Both of them were first elected to Congress in 2020.

The redrawn district extends from the Wiregrass to the Gulf Coast. In our area, it includes Covington County.

The winner will face Democrat Tom Holmes in November.
