CAMPAIGN 2024: Meet Democratic Congressional candidate Anthony Daniels

CAMPAIGN 2024: Action 8 News is getting you ready for the April 16 runoffs in the District 2 Congressional race. Meet Democratic candidate Anthony Daniels.

Daniels earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in special education from Alabama A&M University. His public service career began as a teacher and working for the National Education Association.

Daniels is serving his third term in the Alabama House of Representatives, and is the youngest and first African American Minority Leader in state history.

Daniels faces Democratic candidate Shomari Figures in the Democratic runoff on April 16. There is also a runoff between Republican candidates Dick Brewbaker and Caroleene Dobson.

The winners of the runoffs will face each other in the general election on November 5.

District 2 was recently redrawn to give Black Alabamians a better chance at representation. As a result, the district, which has been a safe Republican district for decades, is now hotly contested between the Democratic and Republican candidates. It is being watched across the nation due to the near-even split in the U.S. House of Representatives.
