An amber alert involving two missing Montgomery children comes to a safe conclusion in Dallas County.
The AMBER alert was issued by authorities — after 13-year-old Janayizha Gunn — and 5 year old Kaiden Perryman — came up missing in Montgomery — Monday night.
“As soon as that Amber Alert went out and contact was made with the authorities that put out that Amber Alert, and we had information that they could possibly headed to Dallas County, we immediately reacted,” said Sheriff Mike Granthum.
“And we flooded the areas where she could possible have family members.”
Investigators found the unoccupied vehicle the children were reported to have been traveling in — at around ten Wednesday morning — at Hidden Acres trailer park — about 5 miles east of Selma.
“Once we located the vehicle we knew they had to be somewhere in the area,” Granthum said.
Both children were found several hours later. They were walking down the 800 block of Keesler Drive — about a half mile away from the abandoned vehicle.
“She took off running,” said Granthum.
“The child was turned back over to the family members. The 5 year old was unharmed at the time,” he said.
“We were able to locate the female subject and she was transported to Montgomery where she will face additional charges.”
Granthum says issuing the Amber Alert — played a vital role — in the outcome in this case.
“Any time an Amber Alert goes out, any type of abduction goes out, time is essential. So, the Amber Alert helps the speedy, fast recovery which saves times which saves lives.”
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issues an amber alert when a child under 18 has been abducted — and is believed to be in danger of serious bodily injury or death.
