Former Alabama State University President dies

Some sad news to report, former Alabama State University President Dr. William H. Harris has died. In a statement, current ASU president Dr. Quinton Ross said, “It is with a very heavy heart that the University announces the passing of former ASU President Harris. The University extends its deepest condolences to his wife, former First Lady Wanda Harris, his son, Dr. William J. Harris; and his family, friends, former employees, alumni and the myriad people whom he impacted.”

The longtime ASU president retired for the third time in 2014, after being called upon twice to leave retirement and come back to lead the university. The Georgia native currently lived in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He was 79 years old. The family announced that final arrangements are pending and will be shared once finalized.
