2024 Montgomery Kidney Walk another big success

The 2024 Montgomery Kidney Walk and celebration for the Alabama Kidney Foundation was held at Riverwalk Stadium on Saturday.

Hundreds of people showed up to help support kidney patients. Every dollar raised stays in the local area.

“We’re over $200,000 and counting,” Shannon Morrell, who is the the regional director for the Middle Alabama Region of the Alabama Kidney Foundation, told Action 8 News.

The region covers 28 counties.

“We might be the biggest walk in the state, but I’m not going to say that yet until the very last dollar is counted,” Morrell said.

The Alabama Kidney Foundation was established in 1975. Alabama ranks first in the number of dialysis patients per capita in the country at 14,000. Right now, 1,300 Alabamians are waiting for a kidney transplant.

She says the mission of AKF is to provide education, support and financial help to low-income kidney dialysis patients.
