1 dead, 4 injured in single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County

23fatalwreckA single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County has claimed the life of a 10-year-old child.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency tell Action 8 News that the accident happened around 5:13 p.m. on Saturday on I-85 near the 15 mile marker, approximately two miles east of Montgomery.

ALEA says the 10-year-old was fatally injured when the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, the child was a passenger in, left the roadway, struck a guardrail and re-entered the roadway before overturning.

ALEA says the 10-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Santa Fe, a 31-year-old man from Tuskegee, and another passenger, a 36-year-old woman from Montgomery, were both injured and taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.

A 4-year-old and 9-year-old, who were also passengers, were also injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the crash.
