Gov. Kay Ivey, mascots preview College Colors Day in Alabama

It’s a tradition in Alabama as Gov. Kay Ivey was joined by mascots from the state’s 14 public universities to proclaim “College Colors Day” in the state.

This year’s celebration will be Friday, August 30. That’s the day that Alabamians are encouraged to wear the colors of their favorite state college football team wherever they go.

The event outside the Alabama Capitol is organized by the Higher Education Partnership, whose mission is to advocate the importance of higher education in improving the lives of people in Alabama.

“The strength of our schools comes from the strength of our students,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “It’s the knowledge and dedication of students like the ones here today that will lead us into a bright future.”

“We want to encourage individuals from across the state to wear their colors with pride to recognize that our institutions are  difference makers in every corner of Alabama,” Gordon Stone, the executive director of the Higher Education Partnership said.

This yearly tradition helps fans get into the college football spirit as the season prepares to start.
