Family of teen whose body was found in Alabama River in 1989 still searches for answers
The family of Tashynina Reese is still hoping someone can solve her murder, 35 years after her body was found in the Alabama River in Montgomery County.
Reese was 16 years old when she went missing in Prattville on September 1, 1989. Her body was found in the river two days later. Investigators say she was the victim of a homicide, which remains unsolved to this day.
Today, Reese would have turned 51 years old. In her memory, a balloon release was held at North Highland Park in Prattville.
The ceremony also came with an announcement that her case is being turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s cold case unit. The details will be re-examined to hopefully find her killer and give her family the answers they have waited so long to hear.
“Who killed Tasha? Why did they kill Tasha? And when the killer murdered her, why did they dispose of her body in the Alabama River?” her mother Mary Harris asked.
“We are still investigating the case and hoping that if anybody has any information, although it was years ago, but if you have any information to please come forward because the family needs to know what happened to Tasha,” Montgomery County Chief Deputy District Attorney Azzie Oliver said.
If you have any information to help investigators, call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at (334) 832-2550 and ask for the cold case unit.
