“Story Walk” comes to Montgomery park

A fun activity has been added to Montgomery parks that will help children learn to read.

The Montgomery City-County Public Library held a ribbon cutting today for its newest Story Walk at Ida Belle Young Park on Vaughn Road.

The Story Walk allows children to explore the pages of their favorite stories as they come to life along the trails.

Story Walks are seen around the world in more than 13 countries. The one at Ida Belle Young Park will be the first of five in Montgomery County.

“It’s very important because we definitely want to get the kids reading early, understanding not only reading but comprehending what they’re reading, and so we started early and I know that there are a plan and they’re gonna also see this and want to know, ‘What is this? What’s going on?’ It’s true that, again, they’re opening their world for them and so being able to explore the world through a book,” Zella’Ques Holmes, the director of the Montgomery City-County Public Library, told Action 8 News.

The stories on the Story Walk will switch out every quarter of the year between several parks, including Fox Hollow and Gateway Park.
