Retiring Montgomery County Commissioner Ronda Walker attends final meeting

One of Montgomery’s most well-known political leaders is calling it a career.

Monday, District 3 Montgomery County Commissioner Ronda Walker attended her final meeting as a member of the commission.

She announced earlier this year that she would not seek re-election.

Walker joined the commission in 2014 and served three terms. She helped develop the local economy, land the F-35 fighter jet project and build Montgomery Whitewater.

“As I segue away from this job into something different, I’ve no idea what I’m going to do next,” Walker told the commission meeting. “Jason and I own Pate Landscape and he would like for me to be there for 60 hours a week, so we are in negotiations currently for that, but I know that God has a purpose for my next season. This isn’t retirement. I’m only 52. Retirement is a weird word to say. I’m not retiring, I am simply changing jobs.”

Walker is also well known as a breast cancer survivor, sharing her personal story in order to support others facing the diagnosis.
