Elmore County students launch weather balloon as part of International STEM Day
Students in Elmore County took their classroom to new heights Friday.
As part of International STEM Day, students planned, calculated, launched and tracked a weather balloon.
The balloon was launched from Wetumpka, climbed to over 80,000 feet before it burst and landed near Opelika.
Organizers hope the lessons learned from the event will help students grow in their knowledge of various sciences.
Action 8 Chief Meteorologist Shane Butler participated in the event.
