ACTION 8 UPDATE: Remains of missing Montgomery woman found in Georgia
ACTION 8 UPDATE: The remains of a Montgomery woman who had been missing since June have been found in upper northwest Georgia, south of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Walker County, Georgia, Sheriff Steve Wilson said the skeletal remains of 23-year-old Timaya Williams were discovered late Thursday in Cooper Heights, Georgia.
Wilson said an animal had brought some remains into the yard of a home off of Georgia Highway 193. The homeowner called 911. Detectives, deputies, the deputy coroner, a K9 cadaver dog and the Rhea County, Tennessee, sheriff’s office found other remains in nearby woods.
Wilson said the remains have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy. He said it appears that Williams died of suicide.
As Action 8 News has reported, Williams disappeared on June 2. She had last been seen driving a car. Wilson said the car was found abandoned on the side of Georgia Highway 193 in early June and had been towed away by the Georgia State Patrol after it had remained on the side of the road for more than a week.
Her mother spoke to Action 8 News in August, pleading for help in finding her daughter, who was her only child.
Sheriff Wilson said investigators in Montgomery had not entered the car into the National Crime Information Center database.
