20th annual Lacey-Boyd Parade celebrates West Montgomery

Folks gathered in West Montgomery for a New Year’s Day tradition — the annual Lacey-Boyd Parade.

The 20th annual parade is the only New Year’s Day parade in the state of Alabama. It brings out hundreds of people.

The parade starts at Carver High School and travels down Fairview Avenue.

Radio announcer Roscoe Miller of Big KD 94.1 said he was honored to be chosen as this year’s grand marshal.

“It means a lot to me,” Miller said. “You do this and you do that, it’s just always nice. For somebody to recognize you, for some of the things that you’ve done, and some of the things you are doing.”

After the parade, there was a concert featuring Selma’s Asher Havon, the recent winner of NBC’s “The Voice” musical competition.

The event was started by community leaders William Boyd and his wife Carolyn Lacey-Boyd as a way to highlight that part of the city and to bring people together at the start of each year.
