Interfaith Montgomery service unites multiple religions as they worship together

People from many different religions gathered Sunday afternoon in the Capitol City to pray, sing, and worship together. This is the second annual Interfaith Montgomery service. Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Unitarian, Church of Christ, and other faiths came together for the service where various texts were read and different prayers recited.

Organizers say it is a way to educate people and unite the community for something positive and uplifting. In the future, the group hopes to visit each other’s houses of worship throughout the year, and they want this to be a starting point for people to learn and grow.

“Everyone is stronger when we’re together. Diversity is a beautiful thing. We should, of course, have our own customs and traditions and practices. But to celebrate one another is really just a positive way of focusing on the good,” said Philip Ensler, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama.

Interfaith Montgomery meets on the first Tuesday of every month. For more information click here.
