Troy softball, Taylor McKinney ready for 2025 season

Troy softball begins its 2025 campaign at home this Friday, looking to build on last season’s run to the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals.
The Trojans return a key piece in Montgomery native Taylor McKinney, who was named the D1Softball Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year. Teammate Cassidy Boltz praised McKinney’s impact on the team.
“Playing with Taylor McKinney has been a wonderful experience, I’ve never had a teammate like her,” the infielder said. “A perfect example of someone who can just put their head down and just produce.”

Pitching

Troy enters the season with a revamped pitching rotation. They lose their top two hurlers following the graduation of Libby Baker and Alabama Christian Academy grad Haley Pittman. But aophomore pitcher Savannah Money believes the staff is ready for the challenge.
“We learned a lot through Libby. She taught us a lot, and we have some other ones that have stepped up,” Money said. “We’ve all just really came together as a pitching staff, playing around everywhere.”
Two-way player Mya Holt has embraced the versatility required this season. She comes to Troy after graduating from Wetumpka High School as the Gatorade Alabama Softball Player of the Year,
“As a pitcher, it has been pretty tough being able to go around and make sure I’m practicing in every position,” the freshman said. “But it’s a grind, and I like the grind, so it’s been pretty fun.”

First Pitch

Troy softball opens its season Friday with the Trojan Classic— featuring Central Michigan, Tennessee State North Texas and Samford. All of Troy’s games can be streamed on ESPN+
