Ethen Gardner signs scholarship for Montavello bass fishing

When Ethen Gardner was 5, his whole birthday wish list consisted of fishing gear. Now the ACA senior has earned a Montavello fishing scholarship

Three-time Alabama Christian Academy state champion angler Ethen Gardner has signed to the University of Montevallo.

Gardner, who was coached by his father Randy, filled his trophy case with 15 tournament victories and four Angler of the Year honors.

The young fisherman’s passion for the sport began early in life. At age 5, his birthday wish list consisted entirely of fishing gear.

“He would probably say, ‘Man, that’s the coolest thing ever,'” Gardner said when asked what his 5-year-old self would think about joining the multiple-time defending champion Montevallo fishing program.

“I knew when I go to Montevallo that the anglers there are gonna be devoted. And they’re gonna challenge me to be a better angler,” Gardner said. “I’m gonna be able to learn from them. And they’ll be able to learn from me and hopefully will be able to push my career to be a professional one day.”
