Man sentenced in 2023 murder of Troy woman

A Troy man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to murder.

Pike County Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley sentenced 79-year-old Larvey Woods to life in prison after he plead guilty to murdering 59-year-old Essie Meadows in 2023.

Pike County District Attorney James Tarbox tells Action 8 News that on July 26, 2023, police were called to the 100 block of North Ridge Circle. That’s where they say they found Meadows dead of a gunshot wound outside her home.Police say Woods was found in the mobile home park and taken into custody.

Tarbox say evidence showed that Woods and Meadows were previously in a dating relationship and that Woods had been arrested before for a misdemeanor Domestic Violence charge in which Meadows was the victim.

Woods will remain in the Pike County Jail while he awaits transport to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
