City of Montgomery unveils new Baby Box

The City of Montgomery has unveiled a new Safe Haven Baby Box to help parents in crisis and to protect the lives of newborns.

The baby box is at the new Fire Station #10 on Fairview Avenue. It is the first fire station in Montgomery to receive one.

The box allows parents to surrender their newborn safely, while remaining anonymous.

The box is accessible from the outside of the station, and once the baby is placed inside, first responders will be immediately alerted.

“By installing this baby box, we are making the unspoken heard,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said. “We are saying it’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to not have all of the answers. It’s okay to take a step that protects your child’s life in a moment of uncertainty.”
There are now 17 baby boxes in the state of Alabama and 342 nationally.
