Pike Road Girl’s Golf brings home four straight state titles

The Patriots are building quite the girl’s golf dynasty in Pike Road as they have brought home four state titles in a row. The team led by Head Coach Ted White.

“I never expected this to happen. I didn’t know that I would evolve into a golf coach and also I didn’t never imagine that I would be a championship golf coach so this is something that is on going for me,” says White.

One member of this Pike Road Team isn’t even in high school yet. London Leonard, a rising 8th grader, has been a key member of the last two state title teams winning her first when she was just a 7th grader.

“My siblings already had played and then I was in like sixth grade I like came out here and watched them practice and I already knew how to play golf but I wasn’t old enough but when I got in 7th grade I started playing on the team and that’s when I started playing golf with the high school,” says Leonard.

However next season the Patriots will be down one member as senior Lauryn Leonard is headed to Southern University to compete at the college level. This leaves the team down one player and unable to qualify as a team, unless another player joins.

“Please come out and play we want to have a team it’s more fun having a team than to compete as individuals,” says White.

“I think it’s a great opportunity not even just to win state again but I think being a part of a team and just playing a sport. For us anyone is fine it doesn’t matter if you’re good or bad but I think it’s a good experience,” explains 3-time state champion Beka Yang.
