CAMPAIGN 2026: Former congressional district candidate Caroleene Dobson has announced her candidacy for Alabama Secretary of State.
Dobson, who is a native of Monroe County, received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and graduated from the Baylor University School of Law.
Dobson is currently a shareholder at Maynard Nexsen, specializing in natural resources, commercial finance, and real estate law in Montgomery.
“As Secretary of State, I will reduce fees on Alabama businesses, streamline services for the public, and I will never back down from the liberal activist groups who want to undermine the
security of our elections,” said Dobson.
Dobson said she pledges to replicate the Florida Election Crimes and Division model in Alabama, saying, “Alabama has some of the finest law enforcement officers and prosecutors in the nation. I want to enhance their ability to bring cases by having a dedicated team of election experts who can investigate voter fraud claims proactively on the ground.”
If elected, Dobson said she has also pledged to prioritize election security enforcement, make the state the national leader in business incorporation, reduce fees on businesses and entrepreneurs, and pass statewide post-election audit legislation.
Dobson ran against now-Rep. Shomari Figures in the newly drawn District 2 on November 5, 2024. Dobson secured the Republican nomination for the seat, but lost to Figures by nearly 27,000 votes.
Alabama State Auditor Andrew Sorrell is also running in the Republican primary.
Current Secretary of State Wes Allen is running for lieutenant governor.
Alabama’s Republican Primary takes place on May 19, 2026.
