ACTION 8 UPDATE: Person identified in I-85 crash near Waugh that left 1 dead, 4 injured
Officials have released the identity of the person killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-85 South earlier Sunday that also left four others injured.
Waugh Fire Chief Anthony Williams tells Action 8 News that it happened around 3:30 p.m. near the 15 mile marker.
Chief Williams said the victim, now identified as 23-year-old Love Dixon, of Montgomery, pronounced dead on the scene.
Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say Dixon, who was a passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. ALEA said the driver also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
One person was airlifted to UAB and three others were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. ALEA says the other three victims were ages 4, 6 and 9.
Williams said multiple units responded to the incident.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
