8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Ford is recalling nearly 700,000 SUVs because of a problem with the fuel injectors.

The recall affects some Ford Bronco Sport models from 2021-2024 and Ford Escape models from 2020 through 2022.

According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford says the fuel injectors in the recalled SUVs could crack and leak inside the engine compartment.

Ford says if enough gas or gas vapor accumulates on a hot surface, a fire could start under the hood.

Ford says owners can go to a dealer for an interim software update that can send an alert when there’s a fuel injector leak.

A final remedy is still in development.
