ONLY ON 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers discusses Alabama races for governor, U.S. senator

ONLY ON 8: Our Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers shares his insight on Alabama’s races for governor and U.S. senator.

While candidates can still enter races, so far, Flowers says the governor’s race appears to be a cakewalk for Republican Tommy Tuberville, who is currently representing the state in the U.S. Senate. Other would-be candidates have chosen not to challenge him.

Tuberville is a former head football coach for Auburn University and for other universities. He hopes to replace Gov. Kay Ivey, who can’t run again due to term limits. Montgomery community activist Ja’mel Brown is running as a Democrat in that race.

Tuberville’s seat in the U.S. Senate is now open. Attorney General Steve Marshall is seeking that seat, but Flowers believes 1st District Congressman Barry Moore will soon announce his candidacy, possibly making that the marquee race of the election year.

There are two others in the Senate race, former U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson from Birmingham on the Republican side and Kyle Sweetser of Mobile on the Democratic side.
